The world would be a pretty uncomfortable place without upholstery
because it is the fabric and cushioning used to cover most furniture.
Back in the 18th century, “upholsterers” we in charge
of every aspect of interior design, even building the actual furniture.
Today, the term is more associated with the fabric that adorns
the inside of a house or car.
Upholstery can refer to:
• The fabric covering a favorite couch or chair
• Drapes and other material used to decorate windows
• Material that covers the seats in the interior of a car
• The padding used to stuff pillows or mattresses
Many people take great pride in their upholstery because it reflects
and improves the aesthetic quality of any interior. For example,
car manufacturers may try to use leather interior as a major selling
point because of the class and sophistication associated with
leather.
